Fashion designers who work fulltime for a single company are known as in-house designers, while others are freelance designers who work for themselves and who offer their fashion services directly to clothing manufacturers, stores, fashion houses, and/or individual clients. Many clothing designers feature their own labels under which their creations are marketed. In general, clothing manufactured today fall under one of the following three categories:


  1. Haute Couture custom-made garments, constructed from the most expensive fabrics
  2. PrĂȘt a Porter or Ready-to-Wear garments, made by designers to cater to all sizes at affordable prices
  3. Mass Market or High Street clothes, which are mass-produced, lower priced, and typically made from lower quality fabrics
